Rep Vinson says the Air Force will grow from 48 to 58 groups in 12 months and reach 69 groups by January 1953, with personnel rising to 548 311. Funding of 4 5355 million supports Truman’s emergency budget, boosting strength by 136 311 since June 30.
Workers from the Department of Natural Resources moved a bulldozer and dragline crane from the Lake Logan site. Over the past week they removed gravel from near the Mon Cook home and laid the gravel onto two roads constructed in the area by the department.
A C 47 transport with 26 aboard including four war correspondents reportedly ditched 10 miles south of Oshima Island. General MacArthur’s headquarters says one survivor has been found and others are being sought.
U S Army in Heidelberg announces a six month freeze on all enlisted and officer leaves in Europe starting August 31. Home leaves are cancelled after August 31.
A virulent polio outbreak in Wytheville and Wythe County Virginia has killed about 15 percent of those infected. Wytheville reports 59 cases and the county 75 cases with 11 deaths since July 1. State health officials describe the area as tense with daily new cases and deaths.
Earl Wayland Squire Mauck 74 longtime Gallipolis Tribune associate editor died in Gallipolis Hospital. He served 19 years at the Tribune and had worked on papers in East Liverpool Charleston Huntington Logan Welch and Williamson. He helped O. O. McIntyre start in the newspaper business and was a close friend of the famed columnist.
General MacArthur dismissed escort planes after landing at Tokyo to return to Korea where they could "do the most good." Pilot Major Anthony Story reported the Bataan was escorted by three rocket armed F-51 Mustangs and the general urged releasing the fighters to hit the front.
Washington July 27 Internal dissension within the Republican National Committee surfaced with the resignation of Arthur Summerfield of Michigan as chairman of the party strategy committee. Summerfield accused National Chairman Guy Gabrielson of planning to let the group die on the vine while Gabrielson said the executive committee urged its dissolution amid regional conferences. The panel, formed under Hugh D. Scott Jr., included governors state chairmen and top campaign leaders Brewster Hall and others. Summerfield claimed the group had built a constructive program for the fall election despite lacking funds from Scott or Gabrielson. He charged Gabrielson aimed to abolish the committee and dissolve it through inactivity, urging party leaders to work together now.
ST. CLAIRSVILLE Ohio July 27 George Ernest Doty a cab driver and former inmate faced the electric chair after three common pleas judges convicted him of first degree murder in the sex slaying of 18 year old Alma Montag Doty was sentenced to die November 15 with no mercy recommended.

HeAlso named two labor aides and outlines labor input to future industry committees and mobilization efforts.
Austin Eugene Lathrop, 84, Alaska's leading industrialist and wealthiest man, died when struck by a loaded coal car while inspecting gondolas at Hearly River Coal Corp holdings in Santana, 112 miles south of Fairbanks. The accident occurred yesterday.
