Thunderstorm Causes City Flooding and Power Outages in Ohio
A heavy thunderstorm drenched the county with an inch of rain and disrupted power for hours. The Ohio Power Co reported outages affecting 358 customers in the Rockbridge, Enterprise and Frasure Helber Rd. areas, with service restored by 10:50 p.m. A broken pole and downed primary wires occurred on Haydenville Rd near the L. M. Ingram and Donald Grubb homes. Water Works equipment also damaged, and full power returned by about 2 a.m. Commonwealth Telephone Co noted scattered minor damage. In Logan, streets including Church St east of Warner Ave and W Front St near Graceland Addition flooded, curb-to-curb. Temperatures cooled overnight, with a 52-degree low and 64-degree 11 a.m. reading. highs reached 84 earlier. Weather outlook calls for mostly fair, cool, and mild conditions Friday.

Construction Plans Begun On 11 Mile Rt 56 Section
The Ohio Highway Department says consultants have begun plans for an 11 mile stretch of Ohio 56 from the Vinton County line east to near Athens. The $3.86 million two lane project would connect with Athens area highways. Engineering work is due by December. The current road has a 38 percent sufficiency rating. In 1960 61 the section had 54 accidents with 56 injuries and two fatalities.

Lightning Strikes in Parma as Bolt Hits Car Draws Fire
A severe lightning bolt in Parma injured 65 year old Napoleon Hampton as he paused near his car and sparked a fire in a home. Hampton, with second degree burns on his upper back, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition.
