An American tank corporal, a 21 year old Irish Bronx native, escaped after North Korean forces tied and tried to execute him and two others. He described surviving machinegun fire at Yongdong area while weapons and crew were destroyed, with one driver killed and others missing.
The U S Navy announces 48 more ships at sea including three large aircraft carriers and 32 destroyers as part of a broader budget rise to 6 7 billion for 1951. The move accompanies requests to boost personnel and air strength for the Korean conflict and possible global tensions.
