A Wheeling driver lost a left rear wheel leaving the car to ride on three wheels on Main Street. Pedestrians and motorists watched as the wheel was quickly replaced to prevent damage.
Robert W. Kemper, son of Mrs. Robert W. Kemper of Columbus, graduates from Ohio State University in 1939 and has accepted a position with Walgreen Drug Company. He is a Logan native and grandson of Joseph R. Kemper of Logan.
Ed Staff reports ongoing reader input on the lily on display in the Daily News window. M.8 Brown of Marion Township calls it a Turk's cap lily while J. W. Williams of Logan Route 3 calls it a snake tongue lily.
The Kidnaping of Rev. Gerould R. Goldner of Mogadore Ohio by Arab bandits in the Holy Land holds interest for Logan residents. His release seemed near Monday and he is set to speak at the Methodist Camp Ground near Lancaster in early September.
Thirty three Hocking County farm women returned home after attending the Rural Women's Camp at Camp Ross Hocking. Miss Ruth Stone led the delegation and supervised the campfire program presenting a playlet titled Country Romance. The session featured a candle lighting service in the outdoor amphitheatre and vesper services by the lake on the grounds.
An extra Railway Express Agency employee Richard Schell, 38, awaits arraignment on charges of robbing an express car of 6704 one dollar bills. Detective Chief Emmett D. Kir gan said Schell was identified by victim T. H. McKernan, who was found bound and gagged when the car reached Cincinnati on June 20.
Funeral services were held in Toledo Sunday for Delmar Filing a former Haydenville resident who died Thursday at Toledo City Hospital after a two year illness. Orson Wolfe of Logan is a brain in law.

Prime Minister Chamberlain, addressing Parliament, cites ongoing negotiations in Tientsin where Japan blocks concessions. He states the accord protects security without altering British policy or recognizing occupied territory.
A House judiciary subcommittee approved a bill to authorize the treasury to pay 1 038 000 dollars to Ohio for old age pensions in October 1938. Rep Jenkins of Ohio introduced the measure and said it would be considered by the full committee next. The social security board withheld the grant claiming Ohio's pension program did not conform with federal regulations during the month.
A. L. Miller, Y M C A general secretary in Jerusalem, gave an unspecified sum via Bethlehem intermediaries to ransom abducted Ohio clergyman Rev. G. R. Goldner. The pay appears as a down payment with another sum to follow on release, amid hopes of Quick resolution and a Bedouin messenger report that Goldner is alive and well awaiting a meeting with his father.
Montreal July 24 Canadian Press three hundred persons fainted or suffered cramps at a mass marriage event in the baseball park drawing about 20 000 spectators. Eight remained in hospital overnight and were released this morning. Most victims were girls and hospital staff blamed heat excitement sodas and running around for the collapse. The fainting began around 9 30 last night.
Russell Kline and nine other Greendale youths gathered at the county extension office at 7:00 Monday to depart for Camp Ross-Hocking for a five day Junior 4-H program. The group will join peers from nine other counties for crafts, woodwork, games, swimming and boating with return planned Saturday morning.
The Logan Theatre manager Ed C Paul reports a rear exit door jimmied and the safe robbed of 12.86 between 11 35 PM and 1 25 AM. Police Chief Lew Reynolds leads the investigation and the money was not the weekend receipts. A separate break at Logan Bulk Station caused a shattered window but no theft.
34 homing pigeons from Fort Monmouth New Jersey arrive for the opening day ceremonies of the world Poultry Congress in Cleveland. The birds will carry a message to their home loft and then to President Roosevelt in Washington. During the ten day event they will fly daily to demonstrate military communications via air messenger. Delegates will dedicate Nationality Cultural Gardens at Rockefeller Park in an international observance next Sunday.
George Bierly aged 68 of Columbus former Lancaster resident died Sunday at 10 A M at St Francis Hospital after a lengthy illness. He is survived by brother Jacob Bierly of Logan and a number of nieces and nephews. Services set for Tuesday at 2 P M.
James P. Johnson age 59 of Mt. Pleasant Ohio was electrocuted yesterday at the Hanna Coal Mine near Rewari south of Steubenville. The accident occurred while Johnson worked at the mine and investigation was underway by local authorities.
Prime Minister Chamberlain in the House of Commons denied any proposal for a German loan under consideration. The dispute followed opposition claims that he sought peace with Germany. R H Hudson, overseas trade secretary, met German expert Helmuth Wohltthal in London. officials labeled talks personal while critics called them meddling.
Final arrangements are completed for a Logan Rotary Club picnic at the Hocking Valley Country Club on Monday night. A brief business session will precede the event, per the organizing committee and officials.
Lay plans are underway for the second annual Hocking County Junior Fair to be held in Logan on Friday and Saturday September 22 and 23. The event will feature junior livestock displays agricultural products handcrafts 4-H clubs Future Farmers of America vocational agriculture students and local Granges with adult entries in corn fruit and vegetable shows. An entertainment program in the high school auditorium and merchants displays are planned. George E. Carr and James Smoot head the organization with county leaders assisting. Premium lists and entry rules will be released soon.
Coroner opens inquiry into the William Penn highway bridge failure near Alexandria Pennsylvania. A family of three returning from a Cleveland vacation was submerged in their sedan in the Juniata River when a heavy truck trailer toppled onto their car, killing all occupants.
Nearly 200 members of Logan post 78 American Legion plus Auxiliary attended the district convention at McArthur. Rockbridge High School band won first prize of 25 dollars in the parade band competition. Oak Hill and Corning bands won second and third. Merrill Johnson of Amanda was elected district commander. George Childs of the Middletown port post named vice commander.
Rescue workers comb Mount Baker face for six college students trapped by an avalanche. Two bodies were recovered as 25-searchers worked along the Roman wall cliff near the summit, including Arlington and Bellingham victims.
Thomas Boyce, 26, confessed to killing Elizabeth Debrukker, 11, at an Attica golf course. He strangled her with a belt, buried the body near a pond, and denied rape. Prosecutors plan murder charges and hold him to the grand jury. Funeral services followed.
Two gunmen forced 20 customers at a Columbus downtown drug store to sit at the soda fountain and tables for about 20 minutes while a time lock on the safe was opened. They escaped with about $600. A postman entering the scene reported the incident.
