Hocking County streams remain muddy after Friday rains causing anglers to fish lakes and clear streams only. Some fishermen report good catfish catches in Scott's Creek and the Hocking River while others have limited success elsewhere. Doughballs and softshell crows suggested for muddy water fishing.
The Daily News window flower draws several popular names including wild lily devil's tongue meadow lily Canadian lily and July field lily. T. W. Phillips calls it meadow lily based on a New York origin. Mrs. B. F. Nihiser mentions wild tiger lily and Turk's cap while W. H. Wolfe ofAneBville adds Turk's cap.Otis Pratt found the plant near his home south of Logan.
Fourteen members attended the regular Welfare Council meeting in the Probate Court room. New member Ewald Schmitter of the Soldiers Relief Commission joined as the council announced a social service directory project to compile health and social agency programs for county betterment.
In Columbus seventy employees in the poor relief division of State Auditor Joseph T. Ferguson's office face dismissal. He announced today that transfers of duties to welfare agencies and a legislative budget cut require the layoffs as part of the relief program readjustments.
The widow of Leo Bannister consoles George Westervelt of Los Angeles as authorities say no charges were expected against Westervelt in the accidental killing during a struggle over a firearm.
Mystery shrouding the identity of the man found July 1 in an abandoned room of a truck mine near Longstreth remains unsolved. Sheriff Joe Farbearn said a letter from Iver Johnson Gun Company states the .22 caliber revolver cannot be traced to the dealer. The body, partially concealed, was found by Harold Boling with George Galentin and William McManaway, workers at the mine.
County Treasurer Robert N. White announces a tax filing extension, with payments due by August 1 or when books are turned over to the county auditor. The prior deadline was July 20.

Senator Hatch faces criticism as the Senate sends the bill to the White House without a roll call. Analysts expect Roosevelt to sign it, despite debate over side issues. Vice President Garner predicts the measure will become law this session as Hatch and Minton exchange handshakes after final action.
Two school bands and 25 Legionaires will travel Sunday to McArthur for Logan Post 78 to represent the district at its annual convention. Logan grade school and Rockbridge bands, directed by James Horwell, will join in the parade with ten other district bands. Officials expect election of a new district commander adjutant and delegates to the national convention in Chicago in September, followed by a banquet and entertainment program.
East Orange New Jersey reports the death of Arthur J. Baldwin aged 71 a wealthy corporation attorney who bred reindeer in Alaska and served as a Tamany Hall delegate to the 1928 Democratic National Convention.
Barnes and James Byers were called to Walbridge on Thursday to report for work in the C and O Railroad yards.
Lonnie Toles, 37, in Pickaway County jail, claims another Black man stabbed Noble Crawford, 39, of Hocking County, while Toles held Crawford. Authorities hold an unnamed ex-convict from Virginia for questioning after Toles implicated a second person in the May 14 death.
In Ohio, preliminary surveys and test holes near Oroville along the Hocking Perry County line target the Kehota Dam project in Wayne National Forest. State and federal engineers prepare lithologic reports and maps for a state provincial project that would create a 1200 acre park with dam and lake on Kehota Mining Co lands.

John Dyker of Murray City appeared before Judge Phil A. Henderson for a second liquor violation. He pled guilty to two counts of possession and selling moonshine whiskey, receiving $350 in fines and costs and 60 days in the Hocking County jail.
At Corning two five year olds Lelia Exemkemper and Vivian Wright were playing on a cistern cover when it collapsed. They fell into the water and drowned. The incident occurred near Corning, New Lexington, Ohio, on July 22.
W. A. Compton of Pomeroy was reelected president of the Blue and Gray Trail Association which promotes travel on U S Route 33 from Benton Harbor Michigan to Richmond Virginia. Ohio directors include C D Shafer Athens and James A Maddox Columbus. Virginia West Virginia Indiana and Michigan directors named. A principal goal is improving 21 miles of highway between the Ohio River and Ripley West Virginia, with action requested from the West Virginia road commission to surface the stretch and help promote the Blue and Gray Trail as a tourist route.

John Abbott age 43 of Conneaut Ohio drowned in Lake Erie near the Port Rowan wharf after fainting and falling overboard from his motor cruiser P. G. while returning from a fishing trip with his wife and mother in law Mrs Sarah Deeser. He asked his wife to take the helm before slipping overboard.
Mount Vernon New York July 23 a professional golfer died last night. He was the first player to break 70 in a U S Open championship in 1909.
