Joseph E. Phillips 73 of 65 W. Second St. and former Logan mayor died at 6 this morning in Hocking Valley Community Hospital. Born November 15, 1902 in Zanesville, he was a retired baker and served as Logan City Council president filling the mayoral term from January 27, 1954 to December 31, 1955. He belonged to Mingo Lodge 171 F&AM and other area orders. survivors include wife Mary Timberlake Phillips, two daughters, eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at Leonard-Luke Funeral Home with burial at New Fairview Memorial Mausoleum. Donations to cancer society requested in lieu of flowers.
