The nation mourns Representative Sam D. Mc Reynolds a 67 year old Democrat from Chattanooga Tennessee. He died in his Washington apartment after an illness hastened by a heart attack.
Twelve year old Micky Howdy shell son of Mr and Mrs Harley Howdyshell appeared on a radio broadcast over Station WHIO Dayton last Saturday. The Howdyshells live near Maxville.
Mrs. Vernon Stump of 285 Wood Street Logan reports picking ripe tomatoes from her garden on June 26. Mrs. George Green of 665 East Hunter Street says she gathered tomatoes on June 27.
In Harlan Kentucky a miner died from gunfire at the Mahan Ellison mine as National Guardsmen clashed with workers. Four others were wounded including a Guards officer. later a union man and his mother were struck on Harlan streets. Governor Chandler ordered tanks and machine guns into the county with more Guardsmen en route. Captain John Hanberry was seriously wounded.
State Auditor Joseph Ferguson accused H. Atkinson of including two quarts of liquor and a hotel bill for Mrs. Atkinson in an expense account. Atkinson said he paid the items personally and charged the state only legitimate expenses on a Dayton trip. Ferguson found the whisky and soda listed as a restaurant expense and Mrs. Atkinson's room rent added.
Gov. Bricker renames Isaac J. Collins of Lancaster as the head of the Ohio Racing Commission, marking his elevation among the commission’s original members. Collins becomes chairman as of today, reflecting the governor’s leadership shape for the agency.
President Roosevelt said he knew nothing of attempts to alter the law requiring WPA workers to log 130 hours monthly. AFL leader William Green urged Congress to address wage cuts, while strikes and protests faced penalties as the justice department prepared to enforce provisions.
Sawyer, the party's former gubernatorial nominee, announced he would not participate as a candidate or by proxy at the July 29 state-wide Democratic rally. He said he would be leaving for Europe July 25 and is not a candidate at this time, leaving his political future open.

Wilma Powell a 13 year old girl from Springfield drowned in the Little Miami River at Bryan State Park yesterday AP reports.
The Kachelmacher Estate intends to sink a test oil well on the John Dougherty farm along Route 33 south of Logan. The estate leases about 1 500 acres including a 32 acre fairground once unused for tie storage, with potential major oil reserves drawing interest from other firms.
President Roosevelt may soon address Congress with a special message backing immediate neutrality legislation. Senators noted the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s 12 to 11 vote to defer the issue, while the administration pressed for prompt action and endorsed a six point program from Secretary Hull. The plan would keep the munitions board and curb U S ships in war zones but would drop the arms embargo, and State Department officials said the law already bans credits and fundraising for belligerents.

In Los Angeles on July 12 an AP report states a coroner's jury accused a Mrs of involvement in the death of her 10-year-old daughter Mabel Anne Chambers born in Dayton Ohio.
Richard E. Long, 17, of Cleveland, told a Boys Industrial School official he planned to flee and "do away" with Juvenile Judge Harry Eastman. A crudely made gun was found, and Long planned to attack a guard and escape in a car. He was transferred to the state reformatory at Mansfield. Lang, called a "three-timer," was committed Feb 3, 1938, for carrying concealed weapons.
At the New York World’s Fair a socialite couple from Old Westbury, J Cornelius Rathborne and his wife, were saved at 3:39 A.M. after mechanics freed them from a jammed parachute line high on a 250-foot tower. The Rathbornes, 32 and 25, rode in a 11-parachute operation and declined medical aid, later driving away.
Pang Young, a Cincinnati Chinese man on death row, asks Gov. Bricker to grant 30 extra days to finish a life story before his scheduled electric chair execution. He was convicted of killing a Black man during a robbery in Cincinnati. The governor has refused to intervene in seven executions since taking office in January.
Dozens of Hocking Countians witnessed a brilliant meteor around 8 50 PM Tuesday, described as a large orange ball with a sparks tail. Some feared it was an airliner in flames while others speculated a fall near Lake London Ontario, with reports of rumblings heard as it dropped toward Lake St Clair.
Donovan M. Bryant a Boys Industrial School instructor in Lancaster confessed aiding two inmates to escape and pleaded guilty to burglary. Judge Charles A. Leach sentenced the 22 year old to an indeterminate term in Mansfield Reformatory. He offered no statement in his own defense.

In San Francisco on July 12 AP legal briefings report defense counsel pressing Laurence Milner Oregon National Guard major to produce all 1 400 reports from his probe into Pacific Northwest radical activity. Milner claims 77 reports concern Bridges and testifies about Bridges alleged Communist ties and activities.
