Heat deaths reach 138 as seven straight days of 100 degree heat scorch the Midwest and push toward the Atlantic coast. AAA estimates 3 to 5 million people affected by drought while a 268 county list expands across several regions.
In Brockton Massachusetts District Judge Stewart B McLeod stopped the session after music drifting from a car outside drew contempt of court remarks. He ordered court officer John Romanus to stop the music and inquired about its source. Romanus replied from the judge’s own car.
In Marion on July 3 an AP report states a two and a half pound girl, born after a fall to Mrs. Z. R. Kinney, remained in a hospital incubator. Doctors called her the smallest baby ever placed in an incubator and expressed grave concerns about her survival.
A tank truck with 5,000 gallons of gasoline crashed into a parked sedan east of Ypsilanti Michigan. Mrs Annie Given 32 of Detroit died burned to death the two companions escaped and the truck driver survived. A photo shows the wrecked vehicles and blaze.
Returning from a New Straitsville carnival, three Greendale girls and a Hemlock visitor were injured when their roadster left the road north of Gore, striking a culvert then a telephone pole. Driver Ervin Bennett and injured include Ernestine Courtney, Madeline Casto, Irma Biggs, and Ervin Waddell. Prompt hospital care followed. Courtney and Waddell stayed for treatment. Deputy Newton Spencer investigated the crash.
The ten ant farm workers union reports a successful general strike achieving higher wages for thousands of day laborers. Secretary H L Mitchell says the action shows black and white workers in cotton fields share common interests and will unite to defend them.
London reporters say the British fleet concentration in the Mediterranean will be reduced almost immediately. The drawdown follows the easing of tension after Italy’s conquest of Ethiopia and the League of Nations plan to suspend sanctions next week.

In Plattsburgh New York Dr Cadman a famed radio preacher fell unconscious with peritonitis and a ruptured appendix at Champlain Valley Hospital.
A son was born to Mrs. Oliva Dionne, mother of the quintuplets, in Callander Ontario on July 9.
Miss Ethel Manter 57 former Grant Hospital nurse died after leaping from a third floor window at Cher rington Hospital in Columbus. Despondency over illness is blamed. brother Arnold Manter of Logan and Dr Ernest Manter of Erie, Pa., reported details. Funeral arrangements by Leonard's Funeral Service.
John L. Lewis and his insurgents prepared to snub the American Federation of Labor leaders meeting to judge their drive to form a single industrial union for 500000 steel workers. Lewis refused to appear, saying the council knew of the defiance as the session opened.
Henry Dague announces a two story addition to the Sun Glow Furniture Factory in Logan adding 7000 square feet and linking plant ends on the west side. The expansion follows three prior additions as the plant, employing over 120 workers, aims for a record year for Sun Glow Industries with Fredericktown, Ohio, as the other main plant and two other factories’ output secured.
