An AP report says a Pacific coast earthquake in Guerrero caused 31 deaths, mainly from collapsed buildings in mountain villages. Acapulco reported no casualties, while Mexico City felt strong shaking with light damages and one injury.
Denison Kitchel, Goldwater campaign director, said Scranton is not cutting into Goldwater's delegate total which stands at 710 in an AP survey. He noted a 75 delegate cushion and eyed higher counts after the San Francisco convention opens. Kitchel expected no big fight over the GOP platform and said Goldwater will address the platform committee in San Francisco.
Washington AP reports AFL CIO chief George Meany will press Republican platform writers on Wednesday to vow strict civil rights enforcement and to repudiate Senator Barry Goldwater s support for right to work laws.
Thomas E. Mettler 93 retired Laurelville general store operator died at his home. Born June 21 1871 in Hocking County he left a legacy with the family run store in Laurelville. Librarian Jack Stephens told the Logan Hocking library board that no federal funds can be used to buy a new bookmobile. The Ohio State Library is exploring a regional library plan serving Hocking, Athens, Vinton, Jackson and Meigs counties, but the plan remains in drafting stages.

The body of Richard Lee Buchanan twenty one of Wellston was recovered from City Park Lake after being missing since June thirteen. Two fishermen spotted the floating body Monday night and the body was sent to Gallipolis for an autopsy.
