City police investigated a minor explosion at 11 p m Tuesday at the residence of Harry Shaw 71 Cemetery Street. Officers said vandals placed an explosive in a metal mailbox attached to the house ripping it from the wall and flinging it about 20 feet away. The case remains under investigation.
AP reports Air Force officers weigh what they call conclusive evidence that Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan were executed by Japanese forces. Capt. Briand cites eyewitness affidavits and a supposed burial site on Saipan, while Tokyo officials deny any execution occurred.
Bids opened at noon for the Vine St water line project. Gene Fitch of Hebron was low bidder with base 19962.50 and alternate 17420, completion 60 days. Henry L. Miller & Sons of Columbus bid base 25759 and alternate 23046 with 80 day completion. Jennison Ave closed yesterday for gas line lowering prior to street work.
