Gore Youth 14 Sentenced After Ohio Shooting Case

A 14 year old Gore youth was ruled delinquent and sentenced to the Ohio Youth Commission after a probation violation linked to a June 24 shooting that killed Olive Buckley. Witnesses, including Buckley’s son and daughter, testified as the boy described a sequence from a bicycle incident to a fatal confrontation.

Storms Cause Power Outages and Damages in Hocking Valley

Storms Tuesday and Wednesday knocked out power and phone service in the Hocking Valley with Tree limbs down and lines broken in Logan and Goat Run areas. Ohio Power reported outages eased by early Wednesday morning as crews worked around union strikes. A major tree fell on Rt 374 near Old Man's Cave and a limb struck a car in Carbon Hill. Weather improved with a warm weekend forecast and a Friday pool schedule change. There was also a Fourth of July severe weather note with tornado watches and one linked fatality.

Julie Says Family Kept Nixon From Resigning

Julie Nixon Eisenhower on her 25th birthday says the Nixon family advised against resignation over Watergate. She notes he lacked advance knowledge of the 1972 break in and later cover up and believes he should finish his work for the country. Skyjacked Plane Lands In Havana

An Argentine Boeing 737 hijacked with 80 aboard landed safely in Havana after stops in Panama Santiago and Lima. The hijacker leader named Pedro Bone expressed thanks to Panamanian officials before landing at 4 21 a m EDT.

Irish Prisoners Riot near Belfast Injures 42

IRA linked clashes erupt at a camp near Belfast injuring 42 as terrorists set seven buses on fire in West Belfast. Troops report child injuries from a rocket strike and a half hour battle at a nearby prison leaves 12 soldiers and guards and 20 prisoners hurt. Looting follows with $225000 stolen in Lurgan.

The Jaycees report a crowd of about 4100 for the third annual Holiday at Home at the Hocking Fairgrounds. The event, moved to July 4, featured rain interruptions, cancelled acts, a first place laft race winner Ron Schultz, a 10 speed bicycle prize, and a grandstand fireworks finale.

Deer Creek Reservoir Closes for Third Time This Season

In Columbus Ohio the Department of Natural Resources closed Deer Creek Reservoir at Deer Creek State Park after heavy rain raised water to unsafe levels. Officials noted the lake near the Pickaway Fayette county line had previous closures for high water and a May drowning prompted the latest shutdown. The reopening date remains unknown.

Two Youths Rescued From Lookout Point Ledge

Two 16 year old boys from North Canton were rescued after becoming trapped about 60 feet up a cliff near Hocking Hills Lodge Old Man's Cave. A third youth, 18 from Chillicothe, suffered minor injuries from a fall but received no treatment. The park reported strong holiday attendance with thousands visiting cabins cabins and the lodge pool and lake Logan area drawing thousands more visitors.

EPA grant funds Ohio streams pollution study

A 90000 dollar grant to Ohio EPA was approved by the federal EPA. The money, added to 938000 dollars from last year, funds studies of Ohio streams to assess pollution tolerance for plants. Stock market drifted lower with the Dow Jones down 3.91 at noon. Kissinger planned a China trip with talks set in Peking later this month or in early August.

CBS News reports that three Watergate prosecutors recommended conspiracy to obstruct justice indictments against four Nixon aides. Targeted are John N. Mitchell H. R.
