Armed Robbery Attempt Reported on Route 33

Police investigated an armed robbery attempt on Route 33 near the Five Mile Inn early Wednesday. Darrel Thress and Eugene Bourne, both from Logan, said a car with New Jersey plates stopped and a shotgun was pointed at Bourne, who fled toward the tavern as a shot was fired. Nelsonville police pursued a matching car on Route 595 but the suspects escaped. no sheriff report followed.

Indian Lake Riots Bring 25 Arrests

In Russell's Point Ohio a riot at Indian Lake drew about 2 500 youths. Mayor Gene Gooding fined and jailed at least 12 Dayton area youths with fines from 15 to 100 dollars and jail terms from 3 to 30 days. Two were bound over for trials.

Graf Returned To Hocking Jail After Hernia Surgery

Neil Graf was returned to county jail by Sheriff Paul Hartman after a hernia operation at Hocking Valley Hospital on June 22. Graf, from Logan Route 1, was serving a sentence for receiving stolen goods and had been sentenced May 24 to nine months in jail with $500 in fines and five years of probation.

Ralph Thompson Accident Victim

An 18 year old Gore Route 1 youth died at University Hospital Columbus from injuries after a crash near Nelsonville early Wednesday. Ralph Thompson lost control on Route 278, overturned against a tree, and was trapped. He died after being moved from Mount St. Mary Hospital to Columbus, marking the sixth fatality in Hocking County this year.

Woman in fair condition after Sarnia highway crash

A Lake Logan Road woman, Patricia Richards 30, is in fair condition after a collision in Sarnia Ontario last night. Her car hit a Detroit couple's vehicle. Patricia's husband James 34 and father-in-law James H Richards were treated for cuts. Their two sons, aged 10 and 4, were unhurt.

Two July 4 car accidents investigated by Hocking sheriff

The Hocking sheriff reported two single vehicle crashes. At 12 15 a m Wednesday on Route 33 three miles south of Logan the driver swerved to avoid two oncoming cars and struck a highway marker, with minor damage and passenger Larry Bush treated for a possible elbow injury. The second crash at 12 15 a m today on Horns Mill Road ten miles north of Logan near Marion school involved Rita L Price who blacked out and hit a tree, with moderate front end damage and minor injuries.

Coroner Rules Heart Attack Caused Potts Death

In London Walter B Potts aged 82 died while fixing a noose to hang himself. The coroner ruled the death as a heart attack occurring during the suicide attempt.
