New York leads with eight traffic deaths as nationwide holiday incidents claim 314 lives. Five drownings near Valparaiso Florida after a boat capsized with 42 aboard. Idaho fireworks crash adds six fatalities as officials link to safety campaigns.
Navy officials report early radio signals believed to be Amelia Earhart indicate her plane may be sinking. Four breaks on Earhart frequency heard by Pan American listeners at 2 05 A M EST. Coast guard and army radio operators later report mysterious dashes guiding search actions. Earhart last communicated at 3 25 PM Logan time during a 2570 mile leg from Lae New Guinea.
Joan Nixon seven daughter of Mr and Mrs Vernon Nixon Union Furnace fractured arm Friday when she fell at home protecting a younger child. She stepped on a dog in the doorway and as she fell she extended her arm to shield the baby. She was treated by Dr H M Boocks.
Albany police arrested John Semano, 22, of Pittsfield after a burglary alarm drew officers who found him pelting alarm company workers with champagne bottles. He stood off the responders by throwing bottles, then was taken into custody.
Mrs. Robert Pendergrace of Everett Mass saw her son Croydon Pendergrace killed in the first of a five mile automobile races on the Swanzey half mile dirt tract before about 5000 holiday spectators.
Governor Harold G. Hoffmann his wife and two children were saved along with Brielle Chamber of Commerce members Sea Scouts and others when a 58 foot powerboat burned and exploded yesterday near Asbury Park New Jersey.
July Fourth passed quietly in Logan with no public celebration or major accidents reported. Fireworks were common, more sold than some years, but local physicians treated no serious injuries. Residents planned trips to Lancaster racing meet Buckeye Lake and Muskingum River. Laurelville held the county’s lone celebration.
An unidentified gunman killed Patrolman B. Frank Lowell during a pursuit after a parked car surge in Lancaster. A red haired woman accomplice fled with the suspect after the auto wreck at a city street. The robber then seized another motorist's car, binding C. H. Stroupe of Charlotte.
Mrs. Lucy Williams aged 56 was clubbed into insensibility in her Dayton home and robbed of 135 dollars. Two hours later police arrested a suspect who confessed. officers said he had 65 dollars on him. Mrs. Williams suffered a possible skull fracture.

A head on collision in Cincinnati killed John Croswell, 16, of Williamsburg, and injured nine others. Croswell rode in a car driven by Sidney Wymer of Williamsburg when it crashed into a second car driven by Marvin Young of Cincinnati.
Prominent Logan attorney Edwin D. Ricketts, a former U. S. Congressman from Ohio’s eleventh district, died Saturday morning at age 72 after a prolonged illness linked to an auto crash in 1932. Funeral services are scheduled at 2 P. M. today at the First M. E. Church with private rites at his residence preceding. Burial is at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Torrential rains flooded Huron Ohio streets to running board depths delaying holiday travel and causing several minor accidents reported by the police. In Richmond Virginia Captain E W Savory said Joe Deas a Negro chauffeur was killed in a gunfight with city police during the Crutchfield case.
Donald Heil 21 of Price Hill Cincinnati suburb stepped into a deep channel while wading and drowned in Indian Lake. His friends unable to swim watched. Andrew Greene of Dayton recovered the body.

City patrolman A F Evans arrested five traffic law violators between 6 10 and 7 30 P M on the Fourth of July. Four arrests were for crashing traffic lights.
The U S Post Office Department and North West Territory Celebration Commission announce a 3 cent Northwest Territory commemorative stamp. It features Rufus Putnam and Mannas seh Cutler with a central map, to go on sale July 13 in Marietta and New York City. The Marietta Celebration Committee offers first day covers in etching style depicting events from the territory’s early settlement.
Mrs. Geo Schwall died Saturday night at her home in St. Louis Michigan after a long illness. She was a former Logan resident and a Methodist. She is survived by her husband two children Lucille and Wayne Barthlow of St. Louis Mich a brother John Hunter of near Logan and a half brother Ed Thompson of Logan. The body will be moved to Heinlein Funeral Home Tuesday for a 2 pm service with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Daniel C. Mosher of Boston woke to discover his car looted by a thief after he parked by a road for a nap. The theft totaled five suits 15 shirts 30 neckties and a toilet set valued at 330 dollars.

J. E. Struble, 72, of 350 Zanesville Ave, died at 3:15 AM after five years of poor health. He is survived by wife Rebecca. five sons Earl, Walter, Robert, James F Jr, and Charles. one infant son. sister Mrs. Tillie Jones. Funeral Wednesday at 2 PM at the Methodist Church, Leonard Funeral Service in charge. Burial at Oak Grove.

Pearl Barnes 64 formerly of Logan who died Sunday at his home 75 No Ogden Ave Columbus He is survived by two sons Clarence and Carl Columbus two brothers Archie Logan and Charles Columbus and three sisters Mrs Mary Welde Baltimore Mrs Ethel Nicely Columbus and Mrs Mabel White Logan Services probably will be held Wednesday with burial at Logan.
