Girl Scout abducted in Florida found safe as suspect nabbed

Charlotte Grosse, 15, was dragged from a Girl Scout camp at Siesta Key near Sarasota. She called police to say her abductor released her while a suspect was arrested in the same beach area. No details on where she was held or the suspect’s identity were released. The incident followed a separate Locust Grove case where three Girl Scouts were killed and an escapee, Gene LeRoy Hart, faced charges.

Tornado Rips Through Fremont and Junction Causing $1 Million in Damage

Violent storms with tornadoes hit Ohio, damaging Fremont in Sandusky County and Junction in Paulding County. Fremont suffered broken windows, felled trees, and downed lines, while Junction saw extensive damage to 27 homes. State Budget Wins Approval in Ohio Two-Year Plan

Gov. James A. Rhodes approves a nearly 13 billion dollar two year state budget beginning the new fiscal year. He vetoes 1.1 million in public employee bargaining procedures while noting education and welfare receive about 75 percent of funding. Pilot Hurt In Crash Near Hocking Tech

Harley Edward Hayes, 61, of Pikeville Kentucky, was injured when his single engine plane crashed into a field east of Hocking Technical College at 10 97 am Today. He received emergency treatment at Mount St Mary Hospital for a forehead laceration and concussion and will be kept under observation for two days.

Hocking Valley July Fourth Activities Set

Fourth of July events kick off in Hocking Valley as camping at Hocking Hills fills and cabins rent. Logan Jaycees plan Holiday at Home events at the Hocking County Fairgrounds with games, bingo by St John School PTA, and a hill country music act by the Vinton County Frogwhompers.

Holiday-at-Home Opens At Fairgrounds With Exhibits

State Rep. Claire Ball will officially open the Holiday-at-Home event at noon as the fairgrounds open at 11 a.m. The Jaycees sponsored family event will feature arts and crafts exhibits and displays by the American group with picnic tables and concession stands for attendees. Logan Man Receives OSMA Medical Scholarship Prize

Kevin R. Berry of Logan is named one of two recipients of the Thomas E Bardir Family Practice Scholarships from the Ohio State Medical Association. The 2000 award supports aspiring family physicians with strong character, leadership and scholarship. Berry, a 1973 Logan High School graduate, will study medicine at Wright State University and previously earned magna cum laude biology from Capital University.

Ohio fails to meet new water standards across state

About 100 cities and 46 industries in Ohio miss federal clean water deadlines set by the Ohio EPA. Spokesman Allen Franks says the deadline arrived too soon for broad adoption, with 24 municipalities passing the test and 46 of 115 major industrial facilities noncompliant.

Fremont Recovering After High Winds Tear Through City

Mayor Richard Maier asked Gov. Rhodes for guardsmen to aid cleanup after high winds evacuated 120 residents from Sandusky County Home. A funnel cloud was seen over Fremont downtown. Courthouse section felled into Flag Memorial Park. First Presbyterian Church lost part of its steeple. Damages hit library, junior high, and many downtown businesses. No serious injuries reported at Cedar Point.

Five Juveniles Nabbed Over City Entries Thefts

City police report five juveniles aged 13 and older were apprehended in connection with a wave of house entries and thefts. Charges will be filed in Hocking County Juvenile Court with potential additional charges as investigations continue. Further details were not released pending ongoing inquiry.

Pleads Guilty To 2 Charges In Hocking County Court
