The General Accounting Office found 85 grants totaling over 21 million dollars went to areas no longer eligible when awarded. Among them were 26 in Youngstown Warren Ohio and three in Canton Ohio. The grants came from the Area Redevelopment Administration under the Public Works Acceleration Act with 880 million appropriated. Communities were eligible when applying but became ineligible before final grants. To qualify areas needed nine months of substantial unemployment in the prior year. The GAO did not call the grants illegal but questioned compliance with Congress intent.

Two Logan Youths Guilty In Local Vandalism Case
Two 17 year old Logan boys pleaded guilty to delinquency before Juvenile Judge Rhea Bangert Brown. One received a suspended sentence to the Ohio Youth Commission contingent on placement with a relative and good conduct. The other had disposition withheld pending further investigation. Each was ordered to pay 75 dollars for damages at Geil Motors and Harden's Supermarket. The pair faced additional charges for consuming alcohol since April 24 and refusing to submit to guardianship.
