In a spring watch, Congress weighs permanent fixes to withholding problems from the 1964 tax cut. Underwithholding affected 1964 refunds, with most trouble around 7,500 to 15,000 annual earnings. Taxpayers can reduce risk by adjusting exemptions or asking for extra withholding.

Mark Stevens six year old son of Elbert Stevens remained in critical condition at Children's Hospital Columbus from burns suffered in a fire and explosion at their South Bloomingville home. The blaze killed his mother Betty Stevens 38 and his siblings Mary Magdaline seven and Gail two, who died at the hospital Thursday night.
The Viet Cong will start Sunday a seven day halt in Vietnam's guerrilla war to mark the lunar new year. Hanoi warned hostilities would resume if Saigon breaks the truce. The order was issued by the South Viet Nam National Liberation Front.
