A Logan city council investigation opened after attorney Phil A Henderson urged a study of the proposed rate hike by Logan Home Telephone Co filed with PUCO. Henderson estimated 1500 to 2000 subscribers would see about $1 monthly rise, 20 000 yearly, with service improvements not imminent due to material shortages.
Daniel S Voorhees 33 was booked on suspicion of murder in Los Angeles after signing a confession to the Elizabeth Short slaying. In Pasadena California a clergyman believed man was struck at an intersection. An ambulance picked up the victim as the vehicle headed to hospital. En route the driver paused to aid others in a second crash and found the first patient had disappeared, leaving police perplexed.
Henry Schlageter 84 a Logan native died yesterday at his Cleveland home after a two week illness. Logan relatives were informed. Funeral services will be in Cleveland with burial there. He moved to Cleveland over 40 years ago and worked as a mail carrier before retirement. Survivors: three daughters Katherine Brows Chicago Mildred Gassett Boston Elizabeth Schlageter Cleveland. three sisters George Hall Frank Martin Logan and Mrs John Rauch Columbus. two brothers Fritz Lancaster and George Logan.
A strong quake reportedly near Bolivia was recorded today at the Boston College seismograph station in Weston Massachusetts, signaling seismic activity detected by the Weston facility.
