A Navy court of inquiry in Coronado California has summoned an admiral who inspected the USS Pueblo to testify in a closed session regarding the ship's armament and related decisions.
The Nixon administration clarifies to Arab governments that Johnson's Jan 15 reply to the Soviet peace initiative is not a detailed policy statement. U N and Jarring remain the main instruments for seeking a Middle East settlement, with opposition to a Big Four conference.
In Saigon AP reports U S Command logged 180 further DMZ indications last week with no major moves seen. A US source said bunkers were being built on both DMZ halves while occasional enemy fire caused a reconnaissance plane loss. Lodge urged restoring demilitarized status as talks opened in Paris. Across the week, five enemy gun emplacements were destroyed. Allied bases endured a dozen attacks. 17 enemy were killed in three battles near Saigon, with 9 American and 1 South Vietnamese dead and 26 wounded.
In Prague's Wenceslas Square police fought youths seeking to memorialize Jan Palach. Officers arrested many as crowds shouted about Russian influence while candles flowers and signs were removed from the St. Wenceslas statue. Police used tear gas earlier after a 2000-strong crowd gathered near the square.
Gov. James A. Rhodes moved to make Thomas Licavoli eligible for parole by commuting his life sentence for conspiracy to four gangland murders to a second degree. Licavoli has served 35 years and is to be sent to Michigan under the Interstate Compact on Parole. He was at Hocking Honor Camp in the late 1950s before a transfer to Ohio State Penitentiary after alleged special privileges.
A major Japanese newspaper reports that U S military authorities in Okinawa have constructed what appear to be six depots intended to stockpile nuclear weapons. The claim centers on base facilities and potential storage plans amid ongoing U S Japan security ties.

The Columbus Education Association and city board of education approved revisions to a bargaining agreement, averting a strike by about 3,800 teachers in Ohio’s largest city. About 8,000 CEA members gathered at the state fairgrounds to vote on the tentative proposal reached in late talks.
