Logan native Austin Collison Bishop longtime Springfield Works manager for International Harvester Co since 1957 retires February 1 after 40 years with the firm. He helped build or supervise more than a million vehicles and led a plant that increased employment from 4,000 to 5,000 with record production times. He is active in civic groups and will remain in Springfield with his wife, living at 738 Broadmoor Blvd.

Stove Explodes Hurting Two Boys and Killing Two Others
A stove explosion on Goose Creek Road near Chestnut Grove Church burned mother Betty Stevens age 37 and her two year old daughter Mary. Two other children Gary age eight and Mark age six were rushed to Children's Hospital Columbus in critical condition with extensive burns. Elbert Stevens tried to save them and threw the boys into a creek. Four other children escaped unharmed. Firefighters could not save the home. In Mansfield Ohio firefighters battled a downtown DeSoto Hotel blaze killing at least one and leaving five missing.

Inmate Convicted In Prison Slaying
Jerry Taylor, 24, an Ohio penitentiary inmate, is found guilty of second degree murder for the April 11, 1964 knife slaying of fellow inmate Albert Eugene Scott in the prison dining hall. The jury of five men and seven women deliberated about seven hours. Taylor already has a life sentence for a previous first degree murder of a Detroit cab driver.
