Nothing New In Plan Hanoi Says

North Vietnam rejected Nixon Vietnam peace proposals saying there is nothing new in the plan and the U S position remains unchanged. It accuses Washington of a conditional troop withdrawal while preserving war aims and Thieu's regime, and condemns the cease-fire as undermining self defense for Indochinese peoples.

South Viet Namese Knock Out Four North Vietnamese Tanks

South Vietnamese fighter-bombers knocked out four North Vietnamese tanks along the western central highlands, marking the first tank combat in South Vietnam since 1969. Aerial observers spotted the tanks and Skyraider and A37 bombers destroyed them. troops were reported killed as tanks moved near Fire Base 5 and Ben Het near the Laos border.

Council Moves Ahead On 2 Major Projects

City Council approved a $100,000 federal EDA grant for South Logan water lines and authorized bids for the project using a $125,000 estimate. Financing the $25,000 balance was discussed as bids open Feb 14 with the EDA deadline Feb 15. A separate traffic lights project estimated at $140,000 was set to be funded by State Issue 1 and TOPICS funds with bids via the state highway department.

Amherst man arraigned on two year old burglary charge

John H. Warren of Amherst formerly of Hocking County faced Judge James Stilwell in Hocking County Court on a burglary count linked to a daytime break in at Harley Ellinger's Logan Route 1 residence on February 9 1970. He pleaded not guilty through attorney Phil Henderson and posted a $2500 property bond co signed with his brother Paul. Henderson noted the Warrens run a grocery in Elyria and Paul owns county real estate. Sheriff Paul Hartman said Warren cannot be released due to a Perry County hold for non support.

Sentenced To Jail In Juvenile Case

Richard Klinger 18 of 650 West Front Street was sentenced to 90 days in county jail by Hocking County Juvenile Court Judge Rhea Bangert Brown. Sixty days were suspended on condition of payment of costs and good behavior. He admitted buying 3.2 beer for three youths on November 13. The youths took the beer to a home on Logan Route 1 and drank it there.

Judge Brown Re Election Bid Files Petitions in May Primary

Probate Judge Rhea Bangert Brown of 248 Florence Ave has filed nominating petitions with the Hocking County election board to seek re election in the May primary. She is unopposed in the Democratic primary so far, while Republican Richard Gerken remains the lone probate judge candidate in his party. The latest central committee filings include Democrat Roy Howdyshell of Logan and Republican Cecil W. Reid of Benton.

Public Forum on TB Hospital Future Draws 200 in Nelsonville

Nearly 200 people attended a village forum on the future of the Southeast Ohio Tuberculosis Hospital in Nelsonville. Veterans groups urged converting the site into a Veterans Administration hospital for the region. Speakers included Dr. William Cashman and Jack Farrington. No final decision was reached.
