Veterans pension plan speeds through House committee
Washington January 26 a veterans pension bill with a multi billion price tag becomes the first order of business in the House veterans affairs committee. Chairman Rankin and American Legion leaders say the measure could affect about 18 million World War I and II veterans with potential annual costs of 3 to 5 billion by 1959. The plan creates age based and disability payments up to 90 dollars monthly at 65 and 60 dollars at 60 plus disability supplements.

Hugh Dobbins aged 39 was sent to the Ohio Penitentiary for a five to 30 year sentence after pleading guilty to kidnapping in common pleas court.
