Thomas J. Herbert, chairman of the Subversive Activities Control Board in Washington, launches his candidacy for an Ohio Supreme Court seat as Justice William H. Hart of Alliance retires. Herbert, who won the Ohio governorship in 1946, was defeated by Gov. Lausche in 1948 and previously served as Ohio attorney general through 1944.

He was shot Friday morning by restaurant owner Bert Fant after the robbery of $30.

A 17 member National Citizens' Committee formed by Washington consultant John M Carmody urges prompt settlement of the Westinghouse Electric strike now in its 15th week. The walkout idles 54 000 workers at 40 Westinghouse plants with 44 000 strikers in the IWE. The committee plans to meet today as unions and management resume talks.

Three men Willard Ciola Duane Packer and Donald Kimberling faced grand jury action after a botched bank heist at the National City Bank of Marion. Hostages included cashier Ralph Hurr his wife and mother in law. Loot estimated at 32000. Police tracked suspects from the Hurr home to the bank and rooftops before capture.
