Sears Names Max Davidson New Logan Store Manager

Max Davidson former assistant manager at Sears Lima will become Logan store manager Feb 1. Robert Ustick announced the arrival at a morning coffee hour. Louis Riggs retires after 30 years. Davidson's career includes Elyria Erie Lima and Newark High School and Miami University business admin. His wife Loris and four sons will relocate to Logan.

A sweeping cold wave grips the eastern two thirds of the United States with Arctic air from central Canada. Cold snap grips Gulf Coast to northern plains

Readings ranged from 27 in Tallahassee and Jacksonville to 29 in Mobile with 32 in New Orleans and Atlanta. Cost Of Living Drops Slightly in December

Washington AP reports the consumer price index declined by one tenth of a percent in December, the first drop in four months. Food clothing and durable goods fell while services continued to rise, bringing the index to 125.5 percent of the 1947-49 base and 1% above December 1958. The December decrease erased November’s gain and returned the index to October levels.

Howard Blum Quits As City Councilman

Howard C. Blum of 3% FE. Hunter Sr. submitted his resignation as a councilman at large to Mayor Francis E. Myers. The resignation is effective immediately. Blum, a Democrat, was elected to his first term in November and assumed office January 1. The council has 30 days to select a replacement. if not, the mayor may appoint. A 1956 precedent saw 118 ballots used to fill a vacancy.

Finch murder trial heads to final stages after witness

In Los Angeles the prosecution nears the end of its massive Finch murder case. A hoodlum testified he was hired to kill Barbara Jean Finch, not seduce her, and prosecutors allege Dr. R Bernard Finch and Carole Tregoff paid Jack Cody to kill the surgeon's estranged wife.
