In Columbus today the House faced a revised $90,285,076 budget bill with $1.54 million in restorations post vetoes as lawmakers seek a relief plan. Senate anticipated to concur, while fights over relief funding basis and county matches drew sharp exchanges among leaders and critics.

San Francisco January 22 AP Warden James A Johnston moved to show authority after about 100 inmates were locked in their cells following a nonviolent demand for control. The unrest began in the laundry with figures like Al Capone among the inmates. 151 prisoners did not join the protest. The warden blamed agitation and said there was no violence or injuries. Notable inmates include George Machine Gun Kelly Harvey Bailey Albert Bates Urschel John Paul Castle and others associated with George Nelson.
The administration proposes a two year half billion dollar substitute for AAA in bill form. Chairman Jones and Senator Bankhead announced the measure without the $500 million appropriations. It would be a separate bill and possibly added to the Senate supply bill. It amends the soil conservation act of 1935 adding soil fertility, efficient land use, and reduced exploitation of national soil resources while ensuring a stable agricultural commodity supply for domestic and foreign needs.
Twenty two residents, including one woman, were rescued from an ice floe on Lake Erie near Kellys Island after a crack in the ice widened to 350 feet. Fishing Captain Frank Hamilton and William Schmitker saved the marooned anglers over three hours in a small craft, four at a time. none fell in, all drenched by icy spray as the ice drifted east.
