Four inches of snow and a 10 degree below zero low hit the Hocking Valley over the weekend. Several schools closed while others operated on modified schedules. buses ran most routes with some exceptions. State highways were plowed and salted as crews reported good road conditions despite slick spots. The state faced record lows with ongoing cold and more snow forecast. at least 12 deaths were attributed to the cold snap.

Kessler 82 Dies. MetLife Employee Had Lancaster Link
Thomas Ambrose Kessler 82 of Columbus Georgia died Sunday in a hospital there. A longtime MetLife employee he retired as assistant manager in Lancaster Ohio. State Plans To Build Lake Logan Boat Ramps
Hocking County representative Harry Armstrong said state plans include two boat ramps at Lake Logan this summer with a total Lake Logan spend of about 292000 under long range recreational development. The ramps will use waterway safety funds as part of a 100 million program with a 290 million bond issue slated for a May vote. Frank D. Matthews Sr. 66 of New Straitsville died Sunday at his home on Fwing Street after a lingering illness. He served as marshal for 11 years and as Perry County deputy sheriff for three. He was active in Masonry and the Methodist Church and lived mostly in New Straitsville except 1955 to 1958 in Colorado Springs. Survived by wife Gladys and six sons, three daughters, two sisters, two brothers, 18 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Services Wednesday at 2 p.m. at New Straitsville Methodist Church with burial in New Straitsville Cemetery.
