John E. Toops aged 26 of Logan Rt. 3 died in a single car crash on Big Pine Road four miles south of Route 33 in Hocking County Saturday night. The crash occurred about 10 45 p m with the car plunging into Big Pine Creek and submerged. The state patrol listed drowning as the cause and said the wreck was not found until Sunday morning. He was a Vietnam veteran, a shipping clerk at Smead Manufacturing, and survived by parents Frederick O and Elizabeth Ann Carter Toops and several siblings. Funeral details were announced for Wednesday at Leonard Funeral Home. Weather contributed to a low weekend traffic toll with eight deaths statewide.
Air traffic controllers walk out at 4 a.m. EST grounding nearly all flights across Canada. Talks with the treasury board and the Canadian Air Traffic Control Association continued overnight as union leader J R Campbell warned of possible back to work legislation.
