Two state highways and several county roads in Hocking County were inundated after Thursday’s heavy rain. Route 56 near Coonville stood at nearly five feet, Route 75 at Oroville flooded, while Route 31 stayed passable. By noon most roads cleared though mud remained. The Hocking River peaked and began to recede as cooler, lingering clouds persisted.

Bittner Guilty of Stabbing by Murray City Jury
Carl Bittner twenty five of Murray City was found guilty by a Hocking County jury of stabbing John Sedlock in a Murray City beer parlor on Christmas morning. The jury deliberated over an hour and convicted on one count of a two count indictment. Bittner claimed self defense saying Sedlock struck him and that he stabbed three times after Sedlock approached the booth with Lanning James and Pitts. Sedlock testified to three wounds on his left side and admitted intoxication at the time.
