Severe weather battered Atlanta with a tornado and thunderstorm that killed one person and injured nearly a dozen. Flash floods and 200 mph gusts caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage as warnings extended across Georgia and the Carolinas.
Space Center Houston AP reports at the Lunar Science Conference three lunar building blocks are iron rich basaltic rock, potassium rich KREEP, and plagioclase. The three materials span front side regions and are linked to Apollo data. Gamma-ray readings from Apollo 15 helped locate the radioactive zone.
Sen Hubert Humphrey launched his Florida campaign for the March 14 primary in Tallahassee after entering the Pennsylvania primary in Philadelphia. He pledged to carry no one else’s burdens while facing a wide field including Muskie Hartke Jackson McGovern Chisholm Lindsay McCarthy Wallace and others.
The Logan Lions Club names Clarence Hartmann of Rt. 1 as this week’s Cheer Club recipient. Hartmann, member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, has been a patient at Hocking Valley Community Hospital for seven weeks and will soon be released. The club will send flowers and asks friends to send cards and letters.
Baton Rouge officials blame Black Muslims in part for a Monday shootout that left two deputies and two Black men dead. Police detained 20 Black protesters. eight faces murder charges followed the violence near a city rally. Four hundred National Guard troops were deployed and curfews imposed as bars and grocery stores closed.
Mrs. Margaret Greenman took the oath of office as a Logan city school board member in a brief special session. The meeting focused on a work session about pay hikes for certificated and non teaching personnel. The personnel committee will meet with the Logan Education Association finance committee and CAPSE representatives in separate sessions tonight.
