Congress Democrats signal hard fight for the Presidents program after his State of the Union message. Opposition forms in the Senate and House over defense, finance, and refugee policy with leaders urging scrutiny and delays.
Hocking County commissioners extended budget talks for 1957 with total county needs at 301000 while cutting by 62400 to fit the 238600 general fund projection. They were about 12000 short at yesterday’s close but expected to finish today. Also approved alley abandonment in Harloo Addition and travel expenses for probate officials meeting in Columbus January 27 31 plus various county bills including auto gas and dog kennel costs.
A public hearing is scheduled for 10 20 a m February 7 in the Hocking County commissioners office to discuss relocation and vacation of part of Route 595 in Hocking County about two miles south of New Straitsville S O Linzell director of the Ohio Department of Highways announced The proposed relocation runs in Sections 35 and 36 of Ward Two from the west end of a bridge over Big Monday Creek across Lost Run and the C O rail line The project length is 0 67 mile.

Hall, from Oyster Bay New York, is speculated to seek the New York governorship.
Interest grows in the Hocking Valley as state officials propose piping water from Burr Oak Lake to New Straitsville Murray City Shawnee and nearby towns. Shawnee council approved a resolution in support while Sen. Stanley Mechem urged reallocating 365 000 from a Perry County lake project to fund the line.

At least five workers were slain by police fire on Csepel Island as 5,000 demonstrators gathered after labor unrest in Budapest. Police sealed the island while Soviets and Hungarians reported clashes at the steel mill and Ganz works. Unrest stems from renewed Stalinism, layoffs, and wage cuts amid a government policy to fire 200,000.
The mercury fell from 35 degrees yesterday morning to nine degrees last night as a cold air mass moved into Hocking County. It was 25 degrees at noon today, three degrees lower than yesterday's noon reading. Mostly cloudy, not quite so cold tonight and Saturday with a chance of snow flurries, and a low of 10 to 18 degrees expected.
