A Pittsburgh resident told Senator Martin that he wants to renounce his American citizenship and move to a place with no income taxes. He said he has a wife and two children and asked how to proceed. The letter was written earnestly, though the name was not released.
Allied negotiators accused the Communists of trying to bolster their forces in Korea by repatriating prisoners of war against the principle of freedom of choice. Rear Admiral E. Libby defended prisoner rights while urging the UN to reject forced repatriation as it prolongs war readiness. North Korean Maj. Gen. Lee San Cho denounced Libby’s remarks as vicious propaganda.
The U S attorney for Central Ohio received instructions to convene a special grand jury to investigate racketeers and corruption. Action will wait until J Ray O Donnell returns to Columbus, with Loren Windom stating no gambling or racketeering cases are on the docket.

President Truman said he will keep General Dwight Eisenhower as supreme commander of Allied forces in Europe as long as he wishes to stay. Truman praised Eisenhower as a grand man, expressing full confidence and noting the role given was one of his most important appointments.
The Veterans Administration will distribute a $200 million dividend to National Service Life Insurance policyholders starting in March. Average payments run about $60, with options for cash or a three percent interest deposit to cover lapse risk or advance premium payments. The Ohio Eisenhower-for-President group will not name any candidate for the 56 GOP convention delegates. Chairman Allan J. Lowe said a grass-roots movement will start in Ohio to sustain support for Gen. Eisenhower.
