A West Virginia man, 50, Robert W. Zemerick of Beckley, was struck and killed by an eastbound auto on Rt. 56 about 5 55 p m Saturday three point nine miles west of Rt 664 according to the state highway patrol The driver was Robert L Harper 30 of South Bloomingville Rt 1 and no charges were filed Officials noted two other minor accidents in the county over the weekend including a deer collision on Rt 328 and a hit and run damage to a parked car The national weekend toll was reported as 424 highway deaths with the safety council projecting 430 to 530 deaths for the 78 hour period ending Monday

Canadian Air Crash Kills Six Near Edmonton Airport
A Boeing 707 cargo jet operated by Pacific Western Airlines crashed and burned during landing in a blizzard at Edmonton International Airport. Police said all six aboard, five crew plus one, were killed as rescuers reached the site by snowmobile at the north end of Telford Lake.

U S Admits Red Hospital Was Damaged
The Pentagon conceded that a North Vietnamese hospital and nearby civilian airport near Hanoi suffered limited accidental damage during U S bombing. Ski lift spins out of control at Pomerelle Ski Area
About 200 skiers on a double chairlift were hurled off as the lift jerked and ran backward down the slope at Pomerelle Ski Area in Idaho. Chris Stevens 29 of Hagerman was listed in critical condition while four others were in satisfactory condition and around a dozen treated and released. Estimates said 40 more sustained minor injuries as the lift carried most of its 120 chairs loaded.
