Addis Ababa dispatch reports Haile Selassie drawing up peace terms with Italy including recognition of Ethiopia as a sovereign state and payment of indemnity. Mentions Denyil Duce ordering 18,000 men to Libya.
Premier Laval told the French chamber of deputies his efforts to settle the Italo Ethiopian conflict were faultless despite hostile questions. He said any conciliation proposals remained dead at the door and rejected sanctions against Italy. Edouard Herriot backed Laval as he explained his role in drafting the peace plan.
In Vanceburg Kentucky four people perished in a blizzard on the Ohio River. Willard Kennedy and Goldie Porter married Christmas Eve attempted a crossing with Corbett Porter and Charles Porter in a frail eight foot boat. Game warden Allen Ruggles reported the mid river capsizing and two cries heard.
Two men uncovered coins believed buried in Oklahoma City under an old Indian Territory dump post. Secret Service agent Osborn says the coins are cheap amalgam with a thin gold covering and notes the case dates back 75 years.
President Roosevelt elevates Brig. Gen. Oscar Westover to full command of the air corps with the rank of major general. Westover replaces Maj. Gen. Benjamin D. Foulois, who has applied for retirement.
At the Ohio Education Association convention in Columbus the resolutions committee considered urging the National Education Association to form a national committee to push for universal federal aid to education. Each state would have one member. Teachers gained representation on the association's executive committee with Miss Luteen Galloway leading the effort. Milton Campbell of the Ohio American Legion pledged backing for education funding to keep schools open. Continued on Page 4%
Chinese students increased protests against Japanese aggression with a 2000 strong group blocking rail routes toward Nanking and Kaifeng rail stations crowded as authorities urge withdrawal. Demonstrators demand a tougher national policy against Japan and oppose North China secession.
A Tokyo government spokesman said consular reports claim missionary schools under American and British influence are leading current Chinese student agitation against Japan. The report marks a shift as mission schools, previously passive, now take an active role in anti-Japan protests.
Frank Kline of Columbus was released on 5000 bond after being charged with breaking and entering in connection with a Murray City filling station robbery. Cohost Felix J Wider remains jailed in Hocking County with George Morris of Columbus also tied to the case. Wider is recovering from chest wounds after a shooting by John Lovett of Murray City.

About 100 passengers abandoned the stranded Lozovski and trek eight miles across ice to shore on the Okhotsk Sea. The 2000-ton vessel, en route from Sakhalin to Vladivostok, faced ice pressure threatening the hull. Some crew guided passengers while tents were set up on the ice. several groups reached land, but many remained. One passenger and one crew member disappeared.
In Crawford County fourteen corn hog contract signers paid $186 yesterday for hogs raised above allotments. County Agent Russell Miller handed the funds to charity: Salvation Army $101, Children's Home $35, YMCA $30, and Red Cross $20. Farmers kept the hogs.
The Hock County Roosevelt Davey Democratic Club will hold an extra meeting Monday night at 7 30 p m to transact special business. Chairman J W Gabriel urges all members to attend in the club rooms 100 F building.
Mine workers recovered the body of John W. Snyder age 63 a coal loader in New Philadelphia Ohio after a 45 minute rescue attempt following a rock fall.
Governor Davey orders the state board of control to transfer funds to keep coal supplied to state institutions. He warns the 1935 coal items remain in existence and must be funded before January 1, with 1936 funds transferable to cover 1935 needs.
Haugeman Falin 16 who killed his father in self defense and was cleared of murder now faces a Jun 6 hearing for firing on his mother Mrs Falin says he fired several shots and threatened I will give you what I gave the old man. He testified he killed his father in self defense after being beaten with a pistol butt and was released Dec 9.
Julius Grodem of Almeda California grumbled when police asked him to move his car at 2 a m. He thanked them and then discovered his house was on fire, prompting emergency response and investigations into cause and safety lapses.
In Hilo Hawaii on December 27 AP reports the U S Army ordered twelve bombing planes to blast lava from Mauna Loa to divert flow from the city water supply. If needed a 50 man Third Engineers detachment will dynamite beneath the lava to create a safe channel toward the sea.
In a sparse session the Ohio Senate, led by Sen. Paul Yoder and Sen. Harold Nichols, voted to extend the five minute recess until December 30. Only these two members present, Yoder gavelled the chamber and Nichols moved the extension, with no objections recorded as the chamber remained largely empty.
In Worcester Massachusetts Mrs. Gertrude E. Fielding sues for divorce from Percy Fielding alleging repeated abuse. She claims he struck her with a bed room radio set a frying pan an auto wrench and threw dishes at her. The court awarded her custody and relief.
A suit contesting the election of G. J. Apel, who ran on a municipal light plant platform, was filed in common pleas court. Norman E. Kurtz, defeated candidate, alleges Apel was not a resident long enough under the city charter and seeks a temporary injunction delaying his January 1st take office date.
Two national college groups opened a three day joint convention in Columbus to merge programs and seek a least common denominator on opposing future wars. Monroe Sweetland predicted heated debate over whether to oppose all wars or endorse defensive wars.
The nationwide cold wave causes 86 auto fatalities and 55 exposure deaths, plus 17 in fires. Fifty other deaths stem from carbon monoxide, drowning, or unspecified causes as temperatures plummet across 28 states and traffic crashes surge nationwide.
A wide search for four machine gun robbers who obtained 9000 dollars at the Union Bank centered today on tracing an abandoned sedan found near Unity east of here. Police believe the gunmen discarded the auto after breaking chains and forcing a motorist to drive them away. Tracy Tidd, store operator opposite the bank, fired a riot gun as the men fired 38 slugs in return. Three bank employees were held up.
In Memphis Tennessee Mrs Page M Baker advises using hog jowl and black eyed peas for good luck in the new year. She says she would fear starting a year without the dish and urges leaving peas on the plate to attract money during the year.
