Pioneer 11 Renamed Heads Toward Saturn After Jupiter Flyby
Pioneer 11 survived a perilous Jupiter encounter and now aims for Saturn. The unmanned probe dipped within 26,600 miles of Jupiter, accelerated to 107000 mph, and will rendezvous with Saturn in September 1979. NASA Administrator James C. Fletcher officially rechristened the craft Pioneer-Saturn.

Deer Hunter Wounded As Gun Season Opens in Hocking County
On opening day of the 1974 deer gun season in Hocking County, Daniel Fetters, 24, Hillsboro, was shot in the right leg by a ricochet at 3:15 p.m. near Coonville.
