Two incumbents Dan G. Long and Don G. Young filed nominating petitions with the Hocking County Election Board for re election to the Logan City School Board. Term of third member Tom Grey expires this year and did not file. Board approved Long and Young petitions at a Thursday meeting.
Bert Lance pledged stock dividends as collateral for a $2.6 million loan from Manufacturers Hanover Trust and later used the same dividends for a separate Chemical Bank loan. Banks sought the dividends but were not concerned enough to call the loan, though officials noted a possible contract breach.
Norma Steele reports town meeting members approved a campaign plan for two one mill recreation levies to buy the Kroger building and fund a countywide center. Strategy targets 18 to 35 year olds with door to door outreach and fair presence ahead of the November ballot.

The Ohio Board of Building Standards switched its code recommendation from ICBO to BOCA after cities paid dues and invested in training. Akron and Cleveland spent tens of thousands. the move prompted criticism of politics and demands for accountability.
Ashley Leach, a former combat medic who seized 13 hostages at Chessie System in Cleveland, remains appealing a conviction that includes extortion and weapons charges. He was acquitted of kidnapping but sentenced to three to fifteen years, while Chessie defends its Vietnam veteran hiring record. Leach condemns U S political system and continues to push for change.

Rev David Christner delivers Dead Unto Sin But Alive Unto God from Romans 3 and 6 with special music by Drew Rolston Shelva McKinley and Mrs. Rolston. Congregational singing closes the event. Visitors are welcome and chair seating is optional. The Hocking Valley Ministerial Association sponsors vesper services this summer.
