A. F. Whitney announces five railway brotherhoods authorize a strike for Sept. 6 to press for a 20 percent wage rise. The walkout will unfold in four regional zones with full effects by Sept. 9, while current eight hour day wages for operating staff are listed for engineers, firemen, conductors, baggagemen, and yard workers.
Judge Phil A. Henderson dismissed two damage suits against Anna Strum administrator of Charles Strum estate and Arthur Peacock. The suits sought 10000 by Mary G Frey and 700 by Edwin Frey following a collision that killed Strum before he assumed county treasurer duties. The action was dismissed without record and costs levied against the defendants.
Newark youths John Strosnider aged 22 and Robert Rittenhouse aged 20, both of Newark, were killed when the car they rode in left the highway and stopped in a creek bed about 75 feet from the road. They died en route to the hospital.
Henry Bruner Ohio manager of the Home Owners Loan Corporation and former state Democratic chairman underwent emergency appendectomy at Mansfield General Hospital after a sudden illness last night. He is 53 and in Mansfield, Ohio.
A flock of 31 homing pigeons released in Logan at 8 10 AM arrived at their Marietta lofts at 10 25 AM, taking two hours and 15 minutes due to high winds and poor weather. Dean Collison, Logan starter, notified the owners.
Jacob Yoder, 72, of nearby Columbiana, died today from injuries after being struck by an automobile in Salem Ohio. Police report the incident occurred this afternoon and the driver remained at the scene pending investigation.
New York August 26 AP The heavyweight championship between Joe Louis and Tommy Farr was postponed to Monday night due to rain. Farr weighed 207 pounds to Louis 198, giving the Welsh challenger a nine pound edge. Officials will redo the weighing and medical checks on Monday amid poor advance ticket sales.
Edward F. McGrady would reportedly resign as Assistant Secretary of Labor within days and move to private industry. The New York report said he would quit September 1 to become Labor Relations Adviser for RCA, after handling major disputes including the West Coast maritime strike, the Goodyear strike, and the Toledo Edison election-related issues.
Richland County officials faced a temporary restraining order preventing refunds of penalties and interest on delinquent real estate taxes. Auditor Norman L. Wolfe estimated about 700 dollars in refunds under a recently enacted state law. Attorney H. M. Rust challenged the law as unconstitutional class legislation in a taxpay er's suit ruled by Common Pleas Judge C. N. Huston.

Columbus Ohio August 26 AP Leland S Dougan was removed as chairman and member of the Ohio Parole Board by Welfare Director Margaret Allman for conduct unbecoming an officer. The dismissal followed a governor level conference and was approved by Gov Martin L Davey as Dougan under investigation by Attorney General Herbert S Duffy who had urged nonreappointment amid reports Dougan was a personal friend of a reputed parole broker.
Counterfeit half dollars are circulating in Logan with darker color and lighter weight. The fake coins have been deposited and accepted at Farmers and Merchants Bank and Logan Home Savings Association, according to local financial institutions.

Van guard columns of Franco's northern army mass at Santander gates to begin occupation after a swift 12 day assault shattered the Biscayan port defense. About half of Spain's defeated forces trapped southeast of Santander, while refugees flood toward France as Franco's navy patrols the coast.
