Hua presses U S on breaking with Taiwan for China ties

Peking leader Hua Kuo-feng urged Washington to sever diplomatic links with Taiwan as a condition for closer China relations. Cyrus Vance met Hua and discussed honoring the 1972 Shanghai Communique while Teng Hsiao-ping and Huang Hua held talks. Hua reiterated demands to end ties with Taiwan and the mutual defense treaty.

New Law Extends Aid to Parochial Schools in Ohio
