A Logan Clay Products Company worker aged eighty tends a Victory Garden near the eastern city after shifts at the plant and bond purchases. The garden is nightly invaded by a named culprit, a petty thief of corn and tomatoes, with a two dollar reward for information. The item ties to Red Cross centers in North Africa and a possible family link between Logan men before wartime service.

In Cincinnati on August 23, 16 year old Jack Stewart received his seventeenth blood transfusion for second and third degree burns suffered when attempting to pour gasoline into a car carburetor. The fuel spilled upon the engine as the accident occurred.
Washington reports that D C Speaker predicts Ambassador William H Standley will return soon from Moscow completing a Soviet United States diplomatic reshuffle. Standley reportedly wishes to retire and return to the United States, possibly in October, with Litvinov’s successor in Washington already uncertain.
Fire wiped out the interior of a warehouse a finishing room and two other Johnson Rubber Co. buildings in Middlefield Ohio. Officials estimated the loss at 100000 dollars and investigators said the cause was not determined.
First call for Logan High School football candidates issued Monday. Coach Clarence Mackey asks all last year’s players and three prospective new candidates to report at the high school building Wednesday at 2 PM. The 1943 season opens September 24 with Bremen.
The Farm Security Administration announced that most of its Ohio farm holdings are disposed and the rest will be sold by year end. In Scioto and three other counties 30 of 107 tenants have bought land, 50 more plan to buy, and remaining properties will be sold. Some tenants have farmed on the land since the project started six years ago.

Bartram of the reemployment division states veterans can return to their old positions with seniority or obtain a comparable job, with government-funded vocational training if needed. Each of Ohio’s 330 draft boards has a reemployment committeeman to assist returning veterans.
