In Mount Vernon Ohio a severe windstorm struck the northwest section, injuring Dan Trace 38 chief of the volunteer police auxiliary who was directing traffic and was hit by a car. Winds reached 50 to 60 mph uprooting trees and snapping branches. A convertible carrying two Mansfield couples was crushed by a fallen tree but everyone escaped serious harm.
