U S military spokesmen forecast Viet Cong and North Vietnamese attacks to stay at 20 to 40 a night, then spike before Sept 2 the 24th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh's independence. 41 enemy rocket and mortar strikes and eight ground fights were reported in 24 hours.
About 41 public officials and citizens attended the Tri County Community Action Program planning meeting at the old hospital building. Main objectives include Operation Mainstream for hard core unemployed, a health program for low income families, increased Neighborhood Youth Corps enrollments, improved transportation to job training, and a legal aid program for the poor. Charles Ennis reported funded cooperative buying and credit union projects will start within three months. A day care program for children of job trainees begins by Jan 1, serving 105 children across Nelsonville, Crooksville, Shawnee, and Corning. Discussions stressed expanding medical assistance in outlying areas. Applications for total program supervisor remain open at the CAP office.

Logan native Dick Schorr, famed for Central Ohio sportscasting, named sports director of WIBF TV Philadelphia effective Sept 1. Schorr, son of Rolland Schorr, has long worked in Columbus TV bowling and Lancaster WHOK, is married to Kay Harmony, and will commute weekly with WIBF TV providing air travel.

John Joy aged 38 from Logan Rt 3 changed his plea from not guilty to guilty before Judge Harley Meyer on a grand larceny count. He is charged with stealing two calves from Acker Bros Dairy on January 5 1969 valued at 150 dollars. Joy has been in county jail since January 10 and sentencing was suspended for a background report by the court probation officer. He was represented by attorney Hubert Lappen.
