Weekend crashes in Hocking County left five hurt across four accidents. Lois Burcham, 23, and passenger were hospitalized after a rollover on Route 75 near Logan. Judy Bell, 16, treated for a cut arm. Carey and Purcell sustained neck strains in a rear-end on Route 180. Minor damage reported in a third two-car wreck on Route 374.

Edgar H. Cavendish 83 formerly of Logan died at 6 30 p m Saturday at his Columbus home 535 Frebis Ave He was a veteran car repairman for the C and O Railway Co and worked at Hocking Valley car shops in Logan until 1927 when he moved to Columbus He retired in 1942 He was a native of New Albany and a Moose Lodge member He is survived by his wife Ann a daughter Mrs Earl Po ling of Logan a sister Mrs Harvey Barcus of Johnstown a grandson and three great grandchildren Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p m at Evans Funeral Home Columbus Rev Earl Schottke will officiate burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery Logan
Logan police report 18 year old Charles Leonard Durrett of Hocking Valley Hospital with a fractured leg after a hit and run crash while riding a stolen motorbike. The bike owner was Norman O Hara of 151 Poplar St. The incident happened at 11 10 p m Saturday near the city gates on Rt 33. State patrol said a passing car side swiped the bike, sending Durrett to the berm. Officers will contact the owner today to identify the driver.
Pat Ayers 16 from Corpus Christi Texas was named Miss High School of America 1960 at Convention Hall in Asbury Park New Jersey, chosen over 15 rivals. She stands 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds with measurements 37 22 37.
President Eisenhower telegrams teachers to seek self fulfillment and equitable reward. AFL-CIO AFT leader Carl Meger outlines a four point plan including pay raises to 6000 to 13000 and state tenure. Orland F. Hartley, 48, of Laurelville Rt. 2, said a bullet fired by an unknown assailant struck his left wrist as he stepped onto his back porch after dogs barked. He was treated at Berger Hospital and released. The sheriff noted a .22 slug damaged a washer lid nearby. Hartley reported prowlers. investigation continues.
About 20 lunch counter sit-in demonstrators gathered before the White House to push for a new civil rights law before the November election. The youths of various races paraded in front of the executive mansion seeking action.
Official Weather Bureau report notes severe thunderstorm warnings in northern Ohio as a cold front moves in. Rain totals include Logan inch Nelsonville .11 inch and Cleveland just over an inch with cooler air and showers today and Tuesday Mostly fair in the south with Columbus at 2.2 inches for the day and Prospect and Kenton reporting scattered showers.
In Havana the Castro regime took over Freeport Sulphur's 75 million dollar Moa Bay nickel and cobalt plant after a tax on output halted operations.
