Four Hocking Men to Enter Timber Training Program

Four Hocking County men join an eight week timber stand management course at Canters Cave 4 H Camp starting Sept. 16. A $23,698 federal grant funds the program with 28 men from seven Southeastern Ohio counties. Trainees will learn timber management, marketing, disease control, and proper cutting to aid local woodlot development.

Nelsonville rain aids drought relief and local arrests

One day rainfall totaling 1.8 inches for the week eases drought in the Hocking Valley after a 0.5 inch shower last Saturday and a 1 inch rain on Tuesday. Donald Buz Lukens the National Young Republicans chair was ousted as Precinct Southwest 91 chairman in a letter from GOP district leader Carl Shipley. SEO Council Seeks ARA Funds for Regional Institute

Mayor Frees Driver and Fines Three in City Court

Mayor Delmar Freeman found 19 year old Carl Dicken not guilty of running a stop sign at Elm and Church. He then fined John Powers 10 dollars plus costs for a stop sign violation at Friesner and Second. Robert Beougher and James Stump were fined 10 dollars plus costs for sidewalk riding and reckless operation respectively.

Three Logan Boys Placed on Probation for Vandalism

Three Logan youths ages 15, 15, and 14 were placed on probation by Hocking County Juvenile Judge Rhea Bangert Brown on destruction of property charges. Apprehended July 26 after attempting to break into a U Do It laundry candy machine on Second Street, they were ordered to repay the damage.
