Mexican gas deal eyed to ease U S shortages and debts

Pemex and six U S pipeline firms sign a memorandum to sell about 2 billion cubic feet daily of Mexican natural gas to the United States by 1980 via an 821 mile pipeline. The plan aims to ease U S winter shortages and help Mexico reduce a 20.3 billion dollar foreign debt.

Columbia Gas Sees Fewer Curtailments

Columbia Gas of Ohio announced that next winter all gas curtailments except for boiler fuel will be eliminated even in cold seasons. An emergency purchase of six billion cubic feet will supply residential needs while boiler firing remains fully curtailed.

Community Vespers Set at Kachelmacher Park

The First Baptist Church of Logan will lead a 6 30 p m vesper service at Kachelmacher Park Sunday. Rev John W Burris will speak on The Law of the Harvest with the church choir and a puppet show for youth. Ruth Black is organist. Carter Signs CCC Bill to Put Youth to Work Nationwide

President Carter signed a 1 billion program to employ about 200000 youths in 35 000 park and forest posts and 138000 training jobs nationwide. The Young Adult Conservation Corps mirrors the old CCC with wages at least minimum and targeted at teens in state and local parks and forests.

A meeting in the Athens County Health Building where officials from Athens Hocking Meigs Vinton and Perry counties, and representatives for Senator Gienn and Governor Rhodes discussed a new CETA Title VIII program. Regulations will be cut in October for a Jan 1 1978 start. county official Leonard Myers said sewage and highway funds were unavailable and the session was not helpful.

Public Hearing Set Aug 12 on Green Landfill Rate Hike

Hocking County commissioners will hold a public hearing at 10 a.m. Friday Aug 12 in the courthouse office to consider proposed rate increases for the Green Landfill on Clay Hill Road. The hearing follows discussions with landfill owner Richard Donahey and attorney Michael Barr.
