President Truman warned Democratic lawmakers he would veto GOP moves to limit atomic energy commissioners to two years or less. He favors a full five-year term for Chairman David Lilienthal and backed other term lengths as agreed. Republicans object, arguing against extending Lilienthal’s term and opposing political meddling.
Melissa Ann Swengel, the 9 year old daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Clinton Swengel of Logan, suffered a broken arm near the left shoulder Thursday afternoon when she fell from a moving family car. She was riding in the back seat with her sister during a call. She apparently toyed with the door catch and fell from the vehicle. The fracture was reduced at Hocking Valley Hospital.
Civilian police used pistols and fire hoses to disperse a Communist demonstration in Trieste Free Territory late last night ahead of May Day. The clash emphasized tensions in the region as authorities moved to prevent mass gatherings.
Final rites for radio star Tom Breneman aged 47 will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park near Glendale at 11 A M. Col Albert Boyd said he piloted the C97A Boeing transport from Seattle in six hours and 20 minutes. North American XB45 jet bomber also arrived from Muroc California.
Dr. Murray Nathan Fowler aged 49, long time psychiatrist at the Ohio State Reformatory, died after several weeks illness at General Hospital. He previously served 13 years at Athens State Hospital and was superintendent at the Apple Creek institution for the Feeble Minded.

Embury A. Hitchcock, 81, emeritus of the college of engineering at Ohio State University, died at University Hospital in Columbus. He served with distinction at the university and was widely respected in the engineering field.
