Mrs Hazel Archibald Draper of Hopedale Massachusetts 42 wife of a textile magnate and former Republican leader is missing after reports of a death by her own action aboard a transatlantic liner. She had left a sanitarium at Katonah New York where she had been confined for four months.
Gov L. Martin Davey and Rep Stephen M. Young spoke separately at the Hamilton County Women’s Democratic club event in Cincinnati. Young attacked the state sales tax and vowed to eliminate it for food, clothing and medicine, while Davey declined to acknowledge a May 12 primary and predicted a large Democratic statewide majority in November.
Brooklyn taxi driver Harry Weiss, 28, jailed in Brooklyn on 50 000 bail after indictment for kidnapping and assault of Paul H. Wendel. Prosecutor says Weiss confessed and implicated Ellis Parker Jr as the finger man in the Lindbergh era crime, with Parker linked to the abduction in a midtown Manhattan sighting. Weiss was arrested in Youngstown, Ohio, and returned to New York.
Assistant District Attorney Francis A Madden said Harry Weiss fled Brooklyn for Ohio around March 27 after reading extreme penalty death for kidnapping in New York. Murray Bleefeld and Weiss are fugitives under indictment. Weiss quoted Bleefeld promising rewards for aiding the case and a chance to become a policeman, referencing Parker as influencing in New Jersey.
Miss Nellie Wickerman a 29 year old Amsterdam teacher was cleared by a jury in Steubenville Ohio of manslaughter charges over the death of Ruth Anderson a nine year old struck by the teachers car as the girl left a school bus near her Richmond home last January.
