Inconsolable survivors plan to hold funerals for 22 victims of a northern West Virginia coal mine explosion. The last body was recovered at Compass No. 2 mine near Dola, and authorities suspect methane gas and coal dust as causes.
Dublin's lord mayor James J. O'Keefe says President Kennedy's June Ireland tour will transform the city. He arrives for a 16 day visit and predicts unprecedented delight and a possible conferment of the freedom of the city.
Fire Chief Robert Courter reported minor front end damage to his car when it was backed into by a fire department ladder truck driven by Fireman Dan Lightfoot. The incident occurred during an inhalator run to 519 W Hunter St. Mrs. Nellie Culp suffered a heart attack and was taken to Lancaster Fairfield Hospital. Police say investigation continues.
Janie Holloway of Logan, daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Holloway, named among Ohio's top 40 high ability secondary students for the Biological Sciences Summer Institute at Ohio State University. The program, June 17 to Aug 16, is funded by the National Science Foundation and OSU, with faculty supervision and a required written report. Janie, a Logan High junior and 4-H member, plans to study veterinary science at OSU.
Ohio lawmakers consider changes to how relatives or patients pay for state mental health care. Proposals include a $10,000 refunds fund, higher debt cancellations, single-family liability limits, and shifting to per day costs around $18 to $22, with collections possible from assets and new charges per visit. About 13,000 bills go out every six weeks, now showing unpaid balances.

James B. Carey president of the International Union of Electrical Workers says he expects a mutually satisfactory agreement with General Electric Co by Sept 1 ahead of the current contract expiration. Talks with GE for 80 000 workers begin next week and Carey cites 1955 as a model after noting they solved issues without propaganda.
Fidel Castro praised Murmansk’s people for their wartime sacrifices as thousands filled the arctic city to greet the Cuban premier. Mikoyan hailed Castro as the leader of the Cuban revolution while Castro lauded Marxism Leninism and solidarity of the international working class in a festive Moscow broadcast.
The Ohio Oil and Gas Association scout report lists two completions in Falls Gore Two. Ridge Oil Co. Inc. brought in a 60 barrel well on the W. C. and Harriett Adair lease, with 180000 cubic feet of gas after fracture. Holl Bros. completed a 30 barrel well on the Elza Hart lease, yielding 150000 cubic feet of gas after fracture. The report notes 19 other wells, including three new ones, being drilled with new locations on Lewis Lehman and Acker Bros. leases and 1400 feet on the John C. Sharp lease.
Warren Ohio county prosecutor Lynn B. Griffith urges cities in Trumbull County to drop county relief contracts and assume relief responsibilities to curb mounting relief debt. He spoke to the Warren chapter of the League of Women Voters on Friday.
Mrs. Nellie Lanning Turner 55 of Grove City Pa died Friday at Grove City Hospital after a day of observation. She was born in New Straitsville the daughter of Frank and (deceased) Lanning and wife of Raymond W Turner president of Turner Bros Construction Co. Survived by three sons James Jerry Larry a daughter Jean a brother Earl Lanning a sister Mrs William Forrester and six grandchildren. Funeral 2 p.m. Monday Shelley Dorr Funeral Home Grove City with Dr Gordon Boak officiating. Burial Crestview Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday at the funeral home.
