Police traced a Redwood City burglary after a store alarm rang at 1 am. Saul Witschner told officers to turn it off, claiming past false alerts. In a Wednesday visit he found $760 in cash and goods stolen from his Menlo Park area shop.
Truce negotiators recessed twice in secret discussions amid reports of a new proposal to end the POW exchange deadlock. Officials offered no details as Washington and Peiping expressed optimism waning for an armistice. Meanwhile 15,000 prisoners from Koje Island moved to six mainland camps with a plan to hold 60,000.
Ohio Attorney General C William ONeill rules write in votes for Dwight D Eisenhower cannot be counted in the May 6 primary. Officials must decide if such write ins deface ballots and affect delegates and alternates to the presidential nominating conventions.

In Gibisonville, 19 year old Harry Whitcraft and 75 year old Armin Chilcote collided on Route 678 near Routes 180 and 374. passenger Ruth Vorhees, 32, sustained a knee laceration and facial abrasions. both cars suffered extensive damage.
In Huntington West Virginia on April 24 the sealed casket will be opened so Mr and Mrs Newton Mitchell can verify if the Army sent them their son Belford or a stranger. A nephew on leave reported the deceased in the jeep accident in Korea was not Belford.
Akron born Poncet Davis, 53, president of Robbins Tire & Rubber Co., was charged by a federal grand jury with evading 738,249 in personal income taxes from 1945 to 1948. The case links him to Edwin W. Pauley and Charles Oliphant, and notes past Hawaii island ownership. Davis denies the charges.
