Five IRS employees conducted an unannounced search of records tied to Ohio's last year Senate and congressional campaigns in Columbus. Secretary of State Ted W. Brown said agents from Cincinnati questioned campaign statements and took notes while refusing to disclose their purpose.

Marijuana legalization passed 403 to 156 with 33 undecided and a recommendation to wipe criminal records of those jailed under existing marijuana laws.
The House Ways and Means Committee approves Social Security and Medicare benefit increases and payroll tax changes. A likely 5.4 percent tax on $10,600 wage base could raise total 1972 payroll tax to about $572.40 for workers and equal amount for employers. The plan hinges on final votes in House and Senate.
Logan High School may lose its North Central accreditation next year due to several deficiencies cited by the association. NEW YORK AP stock market opened with prices largely unchanged as the Dow Jones industrial average stood near 940.42 at noon, down 0.91. Analysts said buying and selling interest canceled each other, keeping the market even for the year despite widespread showers. Rain fell across most states with varying amounts.
U S fighter bombers attacked ground radar controlled SAM sites deep inside North Vietnam and along the Laos border during sixth protective reaction strike this week. B52s dropped nearly 1,000 tons on supply routes in Laos and along the DMZ as Shrike missiles targeted SAM radar sites.
