Boy 12 dies in accidental hanging at Nelsonville
A 12 year old Nelsonville boy, Michael Ray Vernon, died in an accidental hanging at a garage behind 159 Canal St near his grandmother's home Easter Sunday. The rope slipped taut from a hoop used for a basketball area after he returned from a VFW egg hunt, causing his neck to break. His body was found within 10 minutes by friends. He is survived by parents William and Betty Vernon, a brother Bryan William, a sister Janice Kay, and grandparents. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at Warren Funeral Home with burial at Greenlawn Cemetery.
