A plane crash in Pennsylvania on a foggy snowy day kills Otto Ferguson and ten others. Ferguson, a former wartime aviator and one year on the transport line, sacrificed in an effort to guide ships and passengers to safety. He was a Missouri native and former army overseas service member.
Rome April 8 AP Mussolini told his ministers that security in East Africa requires the total destruction of the Ethiopian army. In a surprise cabinet session as the League of Nations conciliation committee met in Geneva he praised Marshal Badoglio and said conquered Ethiopian populations showed sympathy for Italy. The conquest work would proceed without major obstacles.
Almost 400 storm dead from Gainesville and Tupelo were buried in hastily dug graves, some in group burials. Across six southern states floods spread, threatening lives and properties as the week’s death toll rose to 426 with Tupelo accounting for 195.
In Columbus on April 8 AP reports Miss Cora Lillian Burnham sues Rev. Harold Zeis for breach of promise seeking 100000. The Steubenville rector allegedly agreed to marry in 1928 but repudiated in 1935 and married Mrs A B Sharp of Steubenville on January 3 1936.
Joseph Gross sues Jesse Webb estate in common pleas court claiming injury when Webb’s body plunged from a Cleveland hotel window. He calls the event a wanton disregard for pedestrian safety and seeks $2500 in damages.
In Trenton New Jersey officials said there were no immediate prospects that former attorney Paul H. Wendel would be released on the Lindbergh Jr murder charge. Prosecutor Erwin E. Marshall said the grand jury did not act yesterday leaving the case on the books and preventing Wendel's transfer to Brooklyn for locating his claimed prisoner house. Jurors appeared uncertain about the next steps as they planned to reconvene next Tuesday.
In Mansfield Ohio fifteen witnesses are to testify before a special grand jury as County Prosecutor Frank Marriott outlines the case surrounding the slaying of Jean Moorhead a 17 year old girl. Charles Wilson 23 is charged with first degree murder after allegedly pistol discharge during a dispute over leaving Haskell Smiths auto. Moorhead daughter of a prominent Mansfield family was buried yesterday.
Daniel M. Clemson aged 83, longtime associate of Andrew Carnegie, who assisted during the era of Carnegie’s steel empire and helped form the United States Steel Corporation, died last night in Pittsburgh. He was among the men who became millionaires from the merger.
Sheriff Joe Farbearn and Chief Lew Reynolds were in New Lexington this morning investigating possible links between two men held for the Eagles lodge robbery in Corn and other Perry robberies and the Logan Eagles room theft nearly two months ago.
Mrs Joseph Savey and her daughter Miss Helen Savey are both seriously ill at their West Hunter Street residence. The report notes their condition while family members provide no further details.
Miss Eva Mae Robertson of Wichita accuses T. H. Fisher of Galva and a unnamed man of rough handling that fractured her skull and broke her back during a dispute over an Oklahoma oil lease. Fisher is bound over to district court to answer assault charges. he denies the allegations.
Barton A. Hall and Boyd Wright attended a Somerset hearing on adding the Somerset to Junction City road to the state highway system. About 200 people were present and no objections were raised. The road would connect Logan with Junction City and Somerset via state routes, cutting Logan to Somerset distance to 22 miles. If no objections arise, the road joins the state highway system upon recommendation to the highway director.
Only six days remain for a fifteen percent discount for payments made on or before April 15. Water users who have not settled accounts are urged to pay this week to avoid a rush. The Water Office will stay open Saturday April 11.
Manager Ed C. Paul announces no matinee Friday at the Chakeres Logan Theater for Good Friday observances. The Feenamini Amateurs will perform twice on the evening program at 7 and 9 30 p.m. with doors opening at 6 45 p.m.
George Shaw of Shaw Auto Supply is recovering after losing the ends of three fingers last Thursday while working on a joint er in the workshop at the rear of the main street. He was treated by Dr. Victor Similie.

Diego Martinez Barrio, leader of the moderate left Republican faction, was sworn in as Spain’s president in Madrid amid tense sessions as parliament set plans to elect presidential electors. The cortes will vote to call elections within eight days, and electors will choose the president within three months by a joint session.
Col. Lynn Black of the state highway patrol said patrols maintain constant checks on coal trucks hauling from Ohio West Virginia and Pennsylvania mines. He noted no drive to remove trucks, but overloads are rare due to coal bulk and regular inspections for overloading roadworthiness and loose lumps that could fall and cause hazards.
Hocking County Young Democrats will hold a regular meeting at Odd Fellows Hall tomorrow night to vote on the new constitution and bylaws. The club will elect two members to the district executive committee following last week's district election and a county official will discuss the duties of his office.
The Ohio Supreme Court faces questions on whether the Gilbert bill creating four year terms for all county elective officials applies to the November election. Disagreement exists between the Attorney General and the Secretary of State on immediate effect. Governor Davey also signed the fair trade bill prohibiting price cutting on trademarked items with set retail prices.
Frazier Reams, Lucas County prosecutor and Democratic candidate for attorney general, told the Lawyers' Democratic club last night that to keep Democratic governors in office they must elect a Democratic attorney general. He said the state needs an AG who will work with the governor rather than against him.
In Columbus Ohio on April 8 AP reports the state division of securities paused its push to regulate liquor warehouse receipt sales and may abandon the effort. Alfred A. Benesch says the division overstepped authority and cites Faulkner Co. of Springfield seeking a court injunction against interference with receipt sales.
Eleven killed and three injured in a TWA Transcontinental flight crash on Chestnut Ridge near Uniontown. Survivors include Nellie Granger and Mrs Ellenstein plus C Challinor. cadets from Valley Forge Academy mourned. Public hearing expected in Uniontown with Pittsburgh inquiry to follow.
