Charles G. Black acting as mayor and municipal judge fined a motorist $1 for over parking after a parking ticket incident in Franklin. Black, president of the village council, handled the case in the absence of Mayor J. T. Riley.
Charles E Price 80 died Monday evening at Valley Hospital. Funeral services 1 PM Thursday at Stout Funeral Home Nelsonville. He lived in Hocking County most of his life and ran a Laurel Run farm. Survived by wife Hattie son Stanley granddaughter Fay another granddaughter Kathryn King of Columbus and grandson Robert Price of Baltimore. Burial in Smith Chapel Cemetery.
Russia publicly expressed regret over the Berlin crash that killed 15 aboard a British ship. The Soviet commander pledged unhindered Allied access to Berlin and the British cancelled planned escorts for air transports. United States and Britain sent planes without escorts as investigators arrived from London.
Egyptian police strike in Alexandria ended as the interior ministry announced order over chaos. The action triggered rioting and arson, leaving 22 dead and millions of dollars in property damage, with a government back to work ultimatum approaching in Alexandria Cairo and the Suez Canal region.
The United States plans to restrict use of Aleutian islands to military purposes to strengthen Arctic defenses and support Norway's hold on Polar islands. A carrier task force will visit Bergen, Norway, April 29 to May 2 on a goodwill mission, described as routine.

The United States Line announced plans for a 48 000 gross ton super liner to sail the Atlantic at 28.5 knots. The $65 million vessel would take about 30 months to build and carry more than 2 000 passengers, near the capacity of Britain's Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth.

A bat flew over the audience and into the action during the third act of the play Harvey at the Locust Theater in Philadelphia. Star Frank Fay left the stage briefly, returned in hat and collar up, and the performance continued after the creature vanished.
Carlisle, April 6. Violence reported in a sitdown protest by truck drivers bivouacked in their rigs on the Pittsburgh Harrisburg expressway. Major Charles Keller said seven demonstrators were fined 28.50 each for throwing stones at two trucks whose drivers refused to join the strike. The protest targets a state weight law on the highway.
Funeral services for Mrs John D Rockefeller Jr will be private and held by the family. The 73 year old wife of the multi millionaire died yesterday at her apartment and will be cremated. Her ashes will be interred in the family cemetery at Sleepy Hollow New York.
Ohio held major Army Day celebrations in Cleveland Cincinnati Akron Columbus and Toledo with parades speeches and planes flying overhead. About 27 other cities also held events across the state.
Six Manhattan bus routes were halted today by a work stoppage involving 300 drivers. The action suggested possible spread to other bus lines.

Washington April 6 Obeying a court order soft coal operators offered to meet John L Lewis on the pension dispute. They proposed a 4 PM conference, three hours after the offer. If Lewis accepts the meeting may avert further action under the Taft Hartley act and a possible contempt finding.
Mrs. Lawrence Cagg of Nelsonville Route 1 was in critical condition at Hocking Valley Hospital after a fire destroyed her home on Monday afternoon. She reportedly lit gasoline mistaken for kerosene in the cookstove. the blast and flames engulfed the house. A five year old daughter escaped unharmed.
Wisconsin voters weigh three Republican candidates General Douglas MacArthur Governor Thomas E. Dewey and former Harold Stassen as Milwaukee polls show Dewey gaining momentum while Stassen and MacArthur risk falling short. Stassen backers predict a Milwaukee win for Stassen but a tight race for second with Dewey and MacArthur.
